Year 2 Begins--Final Building Inspections

One year ago, we spent a crazy month trying to get the house ready for us to move in.  This month was much calmer. Dave installed the rest of the plumbing in the master bathroom so that we could get the final building inspections completed.

And I was able to take my first bath in the new bathtub.

Our structure and HVAC inspection passed right away, but the electrical and plumbing did not pass.

Dave spent the month changing all the outlets in the house so that they fit the child safety code and adding some air gaps to appliances. These small fixes helped us pass the inspection right at the 1 year anniversary  of moving in!

We still have one more permit out for the electricity in the living room and then we are done in the eyes of the city--but we have a long list of what we still need to get done for finishes.

The rest of the month was not without some excitement. One night, we were awakened by the loudest noise and bright flash of light outside our bedroom window and then the power went out.  Turns out that some bad wiring at the road caused a big power outage.  They got the power back on, but had to come back the next couple of days to run new power lines across the road (see the photo above.)

Dave also decided that he was sick of looking at the yellow stairs to the basement, so he fixed the walls and painted them to match the laundry room...it is bright.
