Day 69 & 70-Beam Us Up
Smart Soft Water
Friday morning, the LVL beams for the attic came. Dave had a little heart attack watching them use the forklift to lift the beams over his Mustang and set them down in front of all the cars.
On Friday night, Chad, Tyler, Dave, Amanda, and I moved the beams to the attic, by removing a portion of the kitchen ceiling and passing them up. Then we took the evening off to celebrate Tyler's 23rd birthday.
The plumber switched the water at the main on Friday to PEX and now we have water running through much of the new pipes in the house and the water softener is hooked up. It is a smart softener, so it hooks up the the internet and communicates via app.
Saturday was all about the beam in the attic to take out the wall between the kitchen and living room.
First Dave built a temporary wall to hold up the ceiling in the kitchen.
Then he removed the wall and added new studs to the ends of the new opening.
Next step was to remove the pieces upstairs to be be able to drop the new beam in and attach the trusses to the beam.
After several adjustments, the new beams fit right in.
The new beams showed how much the ceiling was sagging in the middle over the years, so Dave decided to jack up the ceiling--where did he get the parts, well they all just happened to be lying around the house of course.
The ceiling jacked up easily on the kitchen side--tomorrow we should be able to finish up the beam installation and take down the temporary wall. I can't wait to see it all opened up.
