Day 49-Our Yard

 


A Beautiful Day

We tend to focus on the work in the house, but today was all about the outside of the house. Dave bought a used lawn mower with a snow blower attachment and his parents used their trailer to deliver it today. 

We continued to clean up the garage so that there is room to get it into the garage. I took a load of stuff to the  ReStore and then started to work on selling other stuff online. I also finally went to The Tile Store while Dave installed the shower pan and bathtub for the plumber.

Then Dave and I went and picked up the new fence for the dog run area of the yard. While we were gone,  Dave's parents raked to uncover the flowers in the side yard and dug up the ferns in back of the house and moved them. 

Then we all worked together to install the new fence. 

Dave and his mom installed the posts and the bottom rail and Dave's dad and I installed the top rail and pickets. 

We got 6 out of 8 sections installed really efficiently. We should be able to finish it tomorrow. 

It is a 550 sq ft space that looks cute next to the house and makes absolutely no impact on the size of the yard at all. The yard was so small at our old house, but we have so much space here.  The front yard is huge and then we have this backyard.

Two Years --Another House-aversary

  I cannot believe that it has been 2 years since we bought the house. Back then the changes each day were drastic and necessary; today the changes are still constant, but not as noticeable on day to day basis. We finished transforming the outside right up until the weather stopped us.  In July, we continued to rip off all the siding and Dave patched all the places where we had changed the windows and replaced any boards that where bad.  In August, we began working our way around the house to scrap, paint 2 coats of a special peel stop primer, and paint  each and every surface on the house. It was a long process that we did not finish before the snow flew.  Our work was interrupted in August to have insulation added to the outside walls.  In most places, we could remove an exterior board, drill holes to blow the insulation in, and then plug the holes and put the exterior board in back in place but in the screen porch and breezeway, we had to go right throug...

Month 14: Finishings and Furnishings

The big news for March was the installation and final inspection for the lights in the living room. It  sure is nice to have all of the electricity working in the house now (except the hall lights--we have never had a working light in the hallway by the bedrooms).  The lighting in the living room makes a big impact on the before and after. This month we continued to furnish the house too.  Our big purchase was a new recliner for the living room and some pillows to draw it all together.  While I worked on furnishings and getting bids for the next big items, such a shower doors, egress windows, and concrete, Dave worked on finishing work around the house.  He put the pulls on the bathroom drawers, and stripped, sanded, and painted the doors and woodwork for the bathroom We also began to clean the basement, but I am not ready to post a picture of that yet--no one should see that mess!!

Week 48--The Kitchen is Done-ish

  On Monday afternoon, our kitchen transformed.  I sat and watched as they tiled the kitchen in just 6 hours. Then they came back the next morning to grout the kitchen tile.  Unfortunately, I am not as fast as the tiler that we hired, but this week I did get started on the floor in the master bathroom.  Dave continues to work on the mantle when he is not working, fixing snow blowers,  or clearing snow.
