Day 5--We See the Light

Finally making progress

We have electricity! Alright, we had electricity, but it was subpar.  Today our service panel was upgraded from 60 amps to 200 amps and MG&E ran new power lines from the street to the house. The real fun was trying to figure out what the existing circuits in the house were--some have 3 rooms on one circuit and others just one wall!

Not only can we light the inside now, but Dave installed the new lights on the front of the garage.  It kind of reminds me of that expression about putting lipstick on a pig, but we have really pretty lights lighting up a not-so-pretty driveway.

Dave let some more light into the old kitchen today too. The wall between the dining room and kitchen is gone, not just drywall and plaster gone, but really and truly gone.

But the real highlight at the house today was getting the tile off the floor.  All it took was a bigger crowbar and lots of leverage. Dave worked smarter, not harder and took the board out.

No more floor!

Other great progress today:
  • The new tile for the bathroom was delivered to the front porch during the morning ZOOM professional development that I was presenting--Ralphie let everyone know when it arrived.
  • After several emails with the building permit office, I think we have a plan that can be submitted tomorrow--too bad we have another bad snow storm rolling in and might not make it to the permit office tomorrow
  • Dave and I met with a kitchen planner at Home Depot to preliminarily plan the new kitchen. We have a start--several things need to change but we like the basic layout!!
