Day 23--A Busy, Busy Day
Finishing the Bedrooms
Today was all about getting ready for the wood floor crew to come tomorrow morning. Dave started the day by finishing putting down on of the subfloor boards--he seems to be going through construction adhesive fast.
I started by painting the hallway. It was great to finally be rid of the green. You have come a long way, Hall!
While I was painting the hall, our plumber showed up and then had to leave right away again. My friend, Andi, came to see the how for the first time and she stayed awhile and painted the ceiling trim in Lauryn's room. And Dave's parents came to help again.
Dave spend a good part of the day sanding boards to see if we should replace them and replacing disgusting boards in the hallway.
This house tells many stories. Teagan's room was definitely used by a smoker for a long time. The walls and ceiling have been difficult to get clean and take paint due to all the smoke damage. In addition, the carpet acted like a filter under the door and turn the floor black (bottom right). You can see the dark color on the sides of where Dave sanded to see if it would come out. It did!
The house once had a dog that repeatedly peed on the wall in the hall. The boards on the edge were so water damaged, rusted, disintegrated, and reeked of pee that Dave had to replace those too. Luckily, there were several small replacement boards in the attic.
After painting the hall, I edged Teagan's room, put a 2nd coat on his blue wall, and finished painting the ceilings, corners, and trim in the closets and painted the hall closet. This mystery square that was covered in a piece of rubber is now gone. Any guesses what that was for?
While we worked, Dave's mom took boxes from the van to the basement, cleaned all the tools out of the bedrooms, put door hinges on, cleared all the garbage out of the house, ripped up the carpet and the plastic off the floor, and generally cleaned up after all of us and Dave's dad worked on sanding doors.
After Dave was done with the floors, he trimmed Lauryn's room and then painted the accent wall in our room.
By the end of the night, the rooms were all ready for the flooring crew to come in the morning and our crew was exhausted. After clearing some snow and getting the company car "unstuck" we all headed home to bed.
I told you it was busy, busy day. Final thought on the day, our realtor keeps saying that grays are tricky. We really like the color we chose with the color of the trip, but which color do you like best--Here is the corner between the cedar closet and Teagan's room.
(Trick question of course--they are the same color, the lighting is just making them look different.)
